Living and working in one of the dancemeccas of the world, The Heykids set themselves apart through their startling nack for recognising what’s new and exciting in underground dance music. Serving it up with big flair since 2007, they’ve rocked Amsterdam with a number of critically acclaimed, high profile parties and more memorable dj sets than they care to recall.
Things got started with the now-legendary Fightclub parties in 2007, where they hosted the likes of Ed Banger and Institubes crews, kick-starting the nu-rave electro hype for the lowlands. Early ‘09 they decided to rekindle the Fightclub fire with TAFKAF, to promote the fresh intensity of the contemporary house groove. This resulted in a six-month tour de force with guests Boy 8-bit, New Judas crew, Duke Dumont, Justin Martin, Solo and Renaissance Man.
In the spring of 2008, they took up a challenge in organising the weekly wednesday night for the hottest club of the capital, Studio 80. Within a year, Katapult was voted ‘Best New Party’ at the prestigious ‘Golden Gnome’ awards in poptemple Paradiso. Now the most infamous weekday party in town, Katapult serves up midweekmayhem for a diverse crowd of hipsters, hobos and hustlers united only in their will to party, plus a stunning lack of obligations the day after.
The rave continues when in November 2010, The Heykids will host their newest concept ‘Revenge’ in the trend-setting Club Trouw in Amsterdam, inviting the finest djs in house and disco at a raw, industrial venue amid otherworldly installations and surreal performances.
Today the name of the game is housemusic and in Amsterdam, The Heykids are in a league of their own with an intense and versatile take on this most universal genre of dancemusic. Inspired by loads of experience behind the decks, these guys know exactly what they want to play out for a crowd and are in their brand new studio creating just that sound, expecting to start releasing in a matter of months. Ahead of that, the past year has seen The Heykids go international with gigs that rocked Berlin, Zurich, Lisbon, Vienna, London and Stockholm playing premier venues such as Hive, Paradiso, Lux, Trouw and Berns - confirming them as members of the new group of defining artists for the continent.
