Dutchman Raymond Teunisse (aka DJ Raymundo) developed his passion for music at a very young age. He was inspired by his father’s love of 80s synth pop (Hot Butter, Jean Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk). He knew very quickly that his future lay in music.
Raymond’s DJ career began as a teenager on an illegal pirate radio station in a small coastal town, hearing house music for the first time. The radio station allowed him to meet former Escape resident DJ Marcello, who was spinning at the famous Club IT in Amsterdam at the time. Marcello gave Raymond the opportunity to start playing in the same club, an incredible opportunity at such a young age.
The Past
Throughout the 90s, Raymond built his name in clubs throughout the Netherlands. Then one day, out of the blue, it happened. He was asked to become resident of the finest club in the country, the Escape Venue. For many years Raymundo has consistently rocked his Saturday night residency entitled FrameBusters. Crucially, he is also the talent booker, inviting national and international top DJs (Dennis Ferrer, Kerri Chandler, Roog, Fedde Le Grand, David Guetta, The Shapeshifters, Roger Sanchez, etc) to offer the top night out in Amsterdam. As he says himself: “The Escape’s status as Amsterdam’s finest club means so much to me because I have been resident DJ and programmer for so many years. The endless queues each and every weekend are further evidence of our leading position in Dutch nightlife”.
Looking back over the years, Raymond has headlined major festivals such as Dance Valley, Mystery Land, Loveland Festival and almost every club throughout the Netheland including Hotel Arena, Hed Kendi, Panama, Nighttown, Republiek Bloemendaal, Las Palmas, De Rechter, Sinners, Soularic, Roxy, It, Girls Love DJs, Rise, Loveland ADE, De Kroon, Supperclub, Latino Beats, Vak Zuid, Powerzone, Zebra Lounge, DJ Club Haarlem, Lido, Haarlem Fridays, Beachbob, Dancevoort Festival, Countdown (tv), Plastic Dance Festival, Royal Suite and more. He is also frequently booked outside of Holland in places as far flung as Dubai, USA and Egypt.
The Present
Aways from the clubs, Raymond works extremely hard in the studio. Early efforts such as Framebusted (on Radikal Rhythm) and the follow up entitled Rip It Up! Did the business in the charts and with the DJ that matter. Raymond’s new one for 2010 is entitled Come On (Sneakerz Muzik). This is followed by a collaboration as Raymundo vs Gabriel & Castellon feat. Polina with a track called Absolute (Perfect World) which is expecting a November release after signing to USA's Star69 Records. Check the track here: djraymundo
A second hot hookup sees Raymundo team up once more with the same duo (Gabriel & Castellon) with a track entitled Change. The package is very strong, with remixes from Daniel Bovie & Roy Rox. This release is set to be promoed at ADE, with a full release slated for mid-November on Radikal Rhythm. Furthermore, Ray has just completed a collaboration with Addy v/d Zwan from Klubbheads fame. The track is expected to see the light of day on Spinnin' records in the near future.
Amsterdam Dance Event is also a hectic time for Framebusters resident Raymundo; this year the Escape is hosting some of the biggest names in the business, including the likes of the world's current number one DJ Armin van Buuren, USA's Roger Sanchez, trance meister Paul van Dyk and house sensation Afrojack. ADE is always a special time for Raymundo, and this year you can expect him to unleash his tracks on clubbers and music industry professionals that have flocked to Amsterdam. He has created a special event powered by Framebusters called Kings of Ace. Ray will be joined by a huge lineup of talent which included Addy van der Zwan, Afrojack, Benny Rodrigues, Daniel Bovie, Gabriel & Castellon, Luciën Foort, Quintino, Ricky Rivaro, Roy Rox, Ryan Marciano, Shapeshifters, Sunnery James and Shermanology (live).
The Future
Looking forward to 2011, Raymundo has his sights set on yet another release entitled After All on Radikal Rhythm. Raymundo is currently testing the track out in the clubs, and with a huge remix package also planned, expect it to cause major dancefloor damage in the new year.
It’s a hectic time for Ray, and expect this DJ to be in even more demand with the pending release of forward-thinking tracks which are expected to sit firmly in the CD wallets of the DJ that matter.
This hard-working DJ Framebusters residency at Amsterdam’s legendary Escape club continues to go from strength to strength. Watch out for even more from this talented and experienced Dutch DJ/producer in 2011!
