Sharam Jey has released recently his new album called "In My Blood". In the nineties we know him from the projects he did like Three 'n One and Billy Hendrix. He is performing all over the world. Now that he is on tour to promote his album, Sharam has made some time for DDance.nl to give an interview.
Your artist album 'In My Blood' has been released. How long did the production take?
After my last album I have toured quite constantly. And at first I had some difficulties getting back in those production routines, but I have found so many inspirations and got back into producing quicker than I thought. And it was really great to have that joy making music again. And I wanted to get on to the next level with the new album „In My Blood“. In the end I had about 30 tracks finished and had to cut them off to 13. In the end I worked about about one and a half year on that production. And I have to say that I am really happy and amazed with the result. And that’s a huge thing to say when you are producer.
How would you describe the style of this album?
I just wanted the songs on the album sound energetic but emotionally with each having a story to tell. The style is a mixture of dance, electronic, rock and indie elements. I think I tend to get inspired by all those old synthi-sounds I always loved since I can remember hearing music. And I wanted to give the album a coherent sound
You worked together with singer Princess Superstar (known from 'Perfect (Exceeder)' together with Mason) on a track. How does that collaboration started?
We met regularly at venues where we both played and she became a huge fan of the original instrumental club version of “Monday Morning” and played it constantly in her sets at that time. She had the idea to do vocals on it.
When have you been started DJ'ing and making music productions?
Well, I stared Djing when I was 16-17. First just at schoolparties. But quickly when I was about 18 I started doing this professionally, I played a mixture of rock, hip hop and electronic dancemusic of the 80s at first. Until in the late 80s, early 90s this whole new sound got me and I knew that was the music I wanted to play...
In the late '90's, you had a major success with Three 'N One, together with André Strässer. Will you ever come back with that project?
Back then we did a lot of projects together, we had about 10 of them. But we never did anything under that name again and we will probably never do so. Although I have been working with Andre lately on band projects and tracks.
How does your schedule look like for the next months?
Well, you should come see me live. I am just about to tour through Europe, US, Australia and New Zealand. So stop by. Plus my new single “Hearts Of Stone” featuring Andreas Hogby, from Swedish rockers Torpedo, is just out. It will feature mixes by eg. Malente & Jay Robinson, Mom & Dad, The Phantoms Revenge and more. There will also be an according video. Plus we are already working on the schedule for the next single which will feature Tommie Sunshine and is aclled “The Things”. So lots of stuff coming from King Kong for the rest of the year.
What are you doing about 5 years?
Of course you never know what is going to happen. But I have to say that I will be grateful if I will still be doing music and the stuff I love to do. Maybe I see myself producing more for other artists.
You are performing all over the world. On which location your never performed before you would like to play?
Mhm, there are so many great places… I have seen al lot of great countries already but there are of course still many to go to. So it is difficult to pick one but of course it would be really great to play in my origin country Iran someday if the situation will change there.
Did you have time, besides performing and making music, for other stuff?
I am really busy at the moment touring, promoting and producing but in my free time I love cooking, meeting with friends and of course watching the world cup which will start this week.
Any vacation plans this summer?
Well, I will be in Ibiza this summer, no holidays of course but I will catch a bit of sun. My actual vacation will be more at the end of the year but I don’t know where to go to yet.
