Sak Noel reaches #1 in the Dutch charts with ‘Loca People’. Also in other European countries he reached the top of the charts. The summer hit of 2011 definitely is from this Spanish dj and producer. Previously, we did a conversation with the vocalist of this song, the Dutch Esthera Sarita, but now it’s time for the DJ to ask some question about who he is and what his plans are. Sander of DDance.nl in conversation with Sak Noel.
Congratulations with your number one hit in Holland. Did you ever expected the huge success with 'Loca People'?
No, I could never expect that kind of success. I’m surprised but at the same time I’m very happy and thankful to all the people from Holland. I love your country and your music and being number one in Holland is more than a dream come true. I think you have the best Dj’s in the world, so when I see my name in your charts is like… wtf?? All the Dj’s that are surrounding my song in the charts are my idols so I just can say… Thank you!
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Girona (city near Barcelona) and I’m living there right now. In summer lots of Dutch people come here, mostly to party. That thing inspired me to create Loca People because the song is about a Dutch girl who came to Spain to have fun. I see this story every summer so I thought… let’s make a song about that!
How did you get started with dj-ing and music productions?
I started when I was a teenager with the music programs called “Trackers”. First, I did songs for my friends and when I lost all of them due to my bad songs, ;P , I started to create music for Dj’s, discos and singers. Then my music career went serious and I founded my own company with my best friend (now he is my manager) and we started to make parties in the clubs so finally I became a Dj. Before Loca People I did songs with Xana, a well known Spanish vocalist. Finally I decided to start my solo career and I produced and wrote Loca People and… here I am.
The vocalist on the record 'Loca People' is the Dutch girl Esthera Sarita. What's it like to work with her?
Yes. It’s an incredible story how I recorded Esthera! In June last year I created the rhythm and I wrote Loca People’s lyrics. My first idea was to record my own voice for the song but then I met Esthera. She was going with another vocalist in my studio as she was working with her in a disco as a dancer only for summer in Girona. I didn’t know Esthera but while I was recording the other vocalist we started to talk and I asked her to say some words in front of the mic. She never did that before and at the beginning she was scared. I wrote the lyrics in a paper and Esthera said the words. I remember her face… it was like “this Spanish guy is crazy, what I’m doing here?” but she did the take, just one take. Then we said goodbye and never spoke again since November last year, when I published the song. Sometimes the things just happen.
Is there already a sequel for 'Loca People' that will be your next release?
Yes, I’m preparing the follow-up single for September, after the summer. Loca People is licensed in 48 countries and for the moment it has been number 1 in Poland, Romania, Mexico, Spain, Cyprus, Sweden and Denmark so the song is still growing. I didn’t want to create another song too much close in time to Loca People that’s why I will wait until September to release it.
Can we expect an artist album?
I don’t know. Maybe in the future
At the moment you must be very busy performing, right?
Yes. My life has changed radically since Loca People. I have many gigs and I’m visiting lots of new countries. I love travelling so I’m very happy to have the chance to do that every week and play my song and my music. All that I can do is being thankful to everybody and enjoy the experience. I’m also learning a lot and meeting new people. It’s fantastic but… I miss my bed!
When do you come to the Netherlands for a gig?
As I said, I love Netherlands, so I hope to come soon to your country. I’ve been in Amsterdam several times before for tourism and I love the city. I think my booking agency is in negotiations so I can’t say where but soon I will be here. This summer I have some gigs in Spain only for Dutch people so I think this is a good appetizer.
What are your plans for the next few months?
I can’t make plans, hehe. In the next moths I will be travelling around Europe and I think I won’t have much time to do anything else. My free time will be focused on producing my new songs and doing some remixes that I have been requested.
What are you doing over 5 years from now?
I don’t know. I will try to make a solid career in music but it’s easy to say and hard to do it. In music world you never know what will happen so the only thing I can promise is that I’m going to work hard to improve my music. I will try to make the things in the right way and giving my best.
Do you have plans for a vacation in the coming period?
I think this year I can start to forget about holidays.
Thank you very much for the interview!! :)
