In the charts of DJ Mag Top 100 of 2010, John O'Callaghan is currently at #33. This year he started his own label Subculture and recently he released the compilation album 'Subculture 2001'. For DDance.nl it was time to have a chat with the Irish DJ en producer John O'Callaghan.
You just released your compilation album 'Subculture 2010'. How did you collect all the tracks?
Through the great people at Armada who compiled a nice bundle for me and also by requesting through my producer friends who kindly produced some exclusives for me. It was a great bunch of tunes to pick from!
Are you more busier since you stared your label Subsulture earlier this year?
Of course, we have to work very hard to find great tunes and make the schedule work for everyone. Its really exciting to be part of a growing label, and we have had great support from the big trance community out there. Since a lot of labels dont push the classic trance sound I know and love, its an honor to be able to push this sound.
What do you prefer the most: performing or producing?
50/50 !
It’s been one and a half year ago since you released your second artist album ‘Never Fade Away’. Do you have plans for a new artist album?
Yes I have already started, I hope to release it in May 2011. No name yet, but lots of cool tracks in the making.
You are traveling around the world. When do you come to visit Holland?
Definitely have a few things lined up for 2011 but nothing is confirmed. Hopefully soon!
On a lot of songs you work with singers. Do you have a favorite singer you want to work with in the future?
Jes Brieden, maybe one day.
Do you now have time for other things beside the music nowadays?
Very little but I try my best. I have a new baby in our family so I have great fun spending time at home with him and my fiance. Its hard to find time but I make the best of it when I can find time.
Where are you going to for a vacation in the next winter?
My vacation will be combined into WMC 2011 ! I dont get a real vacation - this job requires 7 days a week work :)
